US Universities Abroad

Did you know it is possible to obtain an undergraduate degree following a US curriculum at an institution located outside the US? Many US universities have overseas campuses, and other foreign institutions and universities may be accredited to award US degrees. Please note each year several international universities have representatives on-hand to speak with prospective students at our USA College Day event.

Choosing a University:

As you research US universities abroad, you may wish to use the guidelines and resources for choosing a university in the undergraduate study section of this website. We recommend you pay careful attention to whether the institution is accredited.

If you need to verify that a US university is accredited, you may wish to search the following databases:

Accreditation of US universities is carried out by private, non-governmental organizations, rather than a central body. For more information on accreditation in general, please see the EducationUSA accreditation guide.

Applying:

The timeline and process for applying for a US university abroad is generally similar to that of applying to a US university. However, some universities may or may not require SAT scores, and some may have later application deadlines. Please note some US universities in the US will also accept applications via UCAS. For more details, please consult the universities' websites.

Finances:

Funding options will also be similar to studying in the US. Please note that unless the institution is also accredited in the UK, you will not be able to use a student loan from the UK government to fund your studies. Consult the DIUS website for a list of accredited UK universities.
