FAQs for UK Summer Institutes

Q: I am a non-US citizen, but am resident in the US. May I apply?

We require all applicants for our UK Summer Institute to be a US citizen with a US passport. Unfortunately if you do not currently possess a US passport then you would not be eligible to take part in this programme.

Q. Can I apply for both institutes?

You may only apply for one of the summer institutes. You should make a decision based on the programme outlines of each institute and decide which institute best suits your academic and personal interests.

Q. What costs are covered by the institute?

The Summer Institute will cover round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the Newcastle University, accommodation and social programme, subsistence e.g. food and drink and visa processing. Participants are expected to pay for their own travel, health and accident insurance

Q. I currently attend a community college, can I still apply?

Applicants who have completed community college classes are eligible to apply. However, you must have at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete after returning from the institute in order to be eligible to apply.

Q. I am a junior/senior in college/university, can I still apply?

Applicants must have at least two years of undergraduate study left to complete after returning from the institute in order to be eligible to apply.

Q. If I apply for the Newcastle University Summer Institute do I need to apply with Newcastle University as well?

If you wish to apply for the Fulbright Newcastle University Summer Institute you only need to apply with the Fulbright Commission and not Newcastle University.

Q. If I email my application do I need to send a hard-copy through the mail?

No, we only require one copy of your application either by email or hard copy.
