The University of Ulster is the largest university on the island of Ireland and is among the largest in the whole of the United Kingdom with over 23,000 students enroled on a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and other courses. It regularly features among the top 10 in terms of the number of applications for its undergraduate programmes and has a well respected and diverse range of research expertise, knowledge transfer, and community outreach.
Based on four campuses - Jordanstown, Coleraine, Belfast and Magee (in Londonderry), the University has almost 4,000 members of staff (including 1,000 academic staff) based in six faculties including the Faculty of Social Sciences. In turn, the faculties are divided into schools, including the School of Policy Studies in which Fulbright Scholars are based.The University's Vision is "to be a university with a national and international reputation for excellence, innovation and regional engagement".

Fulbright Scholars visiting the University of Ulster are usually based at the Jordanstown campus of the University which is where most of the staff within the School of Policy Studies are employed. This suburban campus is the largest of four that make up the University and is located 7 miles from the centre of Belfast, the capital of Northern Ireland. It is easily accessible from both the city's international airports (Belfast City Airport - 10 miles and Belfast Aldergrove International Airport - 17 miles). It is well connected by road (motorway) and rail to the city centre and public transport links to the city.
