University of Leeds

Study or teach at one of the UK’s top tenLogo research institutions.

“You will meet the most amazing people from all over the world…and will become more confident and independent than you ever thought was possible.” Janine Ketter, study abroad student from Pennsylvania State University.

The University of Leeds strives to create, advance and disseminate knowledge, which not only develops outstanding graduates and scholars, but also has a direct impact on global society.

Established in 1904, they are part of the prestigious Russell Group – the 20 leading research universities in the UK, and are well known throughout the world for their quality of teaching and research. Last year their 30,500 students came from over 130 countries, and the total international student population exceeded 5,000.

Their degrees are also well respected by employers and universities worldwide, and in the latest World University League Tables, published in November 2008, the University of Leeds' employer review score was 98 out of 100.

Integrating research with learning and teaching is at the heart of our strategy, and their courses are underpinned - and taught - by staff who are engaged in world-class research and cutting-edge professional practice.

In the recent Research Assessment Exercise (a national benchmarking exercise which evaluates and rates research performance across the UK higher education sector) more than half their schools, across arts and science-based disciplines, were ranked in the top 10 in the country - and 61% of our research was judged to be ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

Their size and international reputation enables the University to offer one of the widest ranges of academic courses in the UK. And the single-site campus, just a short walk from the thriving city centre, means Leeds is the perfect place to live and learn.

Life in Leeds

Leeds is a cosmopolitan, cultural city, easily reached by a short walk from our campus. There are over 200,000 students in our city, all enjoying the lively, friendly environment.

We have plenty of attractions: from a vast array of music venues and sports facilities to city art galleries, theatres and museums, including the famous Royal Armouries and the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

Leeds is also the gateway to the National Parks of Yorkshire Dales and The North York Moors, and is within easy driving distance of The Lake District. Haworth, the dramatic home of the Bronte sisters, is close by as is the historic Roman and Viking city of York. Our location, right in the centre of the UK, makes us easy to get to and from, and Leeds also has a thriving international airport and one of the busiest train stations outside the capital.
