FULBRIGHT AWARDS

Fulbright-Strathclyde University Research Awards

Five Fulbright Awards are offered for the first year of postgraduate study by research (PhD, MPhil, MRes only) at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. Awards will be made in each of the university's four schools: Faculty of Science (1 award for a 3-year PhD), Faculty of Engineering (1-year research degree programme or the first year of a PhD), Strathclyde Business School (1 award for a 3-year PhD) and Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (2 awards for a 1-year research degree programme or the first year of a PhD).

Award Benefits

For a 1-year research project the grant is for £20,000, from which tuition fees will be paid leaving a living / maintenance stipend of approx £8,000. For a 3-year PhD course the grant is for £60,000, from which tuition fees will be paid leaving a living / maintenance stipend of approx £8,000 for each of the 3 years. All grants are paid in installments directly to the grantee, the first of which is typically given upon arrival in the UK. Limited sickness and accident benefit coverage (typically not needed with free access to the NHS) as well as participation in a number of Fulbright Scholar events including the Fulbright Forum in January are also included.

Selection Criteria

Minimum eligibility for this award category:

Candidates need not be recent graduates, and financial need is not a factor in the selection process. The program seeks the widest possible variety of fields and career goals among applicants, including the arts and professional studies in addition to traditional academic disciplines. Preference will be given to those who do not have extensive experience in the UK.

In making these awards the Commission is looking not only for academic excellence but a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, a desire to further the Fulbright Programme and a plan to work for the betterment of the home and host countries both during and after studies.

Applying

The online application is facilitated by IIE and is used by Fulbright Commissions worldwide. Each Commission sets its own policies and procedures with country-specific information for making an application for a Fulbright Award in their country. You will be able to log in and out of your application account and will not be required to complete the application in one sitting.

It is imperative that you read the Terms and Conditions on this website before submitting your application. Applicants should review all available US Award categories and the FAQs before submitting an application. Applicants are also encouraged to register to the Fulbright Commission’s website to receive updates from the Commission.

Successful applicants will be invited for telephone interviews with Fulbright Commission senior staff on the date(s) listed below. Interviews will be held on the indicated date(s) only and may not be rescheduled.

Proposals must receive endorsement from the University of Strathclyde, which the Fulbright Commission will seek on behalf of successful applicants.
