FULBRIGHT AWARDS

US Awards - Interview FAQs

Q: Who reads the applications, conducts telephone interviews and ‘chooses’ the Fulbright award recipients?
A: For each award category, a selection committee will be assembled, typically comprised of representatives from a relevant professional field, senior academics, senior US Embassy and/or Consulate representatives, Fulbright alumni and senior Fulbright Commission staff.

Q: I will be out of my home state during the listed interview date(s). Would it be possible to schedule the telephone interview for another day?
A: No, interview dates are fixed and published online several months in advance of the application deadlines.  While we will aim to be flexible with timing, the date may not change.

Q: What are the telephone interviews like?
A: Telephone interviews last for approximately 10-20 minutes.  We have a list of questions we ask all short-listed candidates and generally do not discuss the application itself, except to seek clarification if something is not clear or perhaps has not been considered. It is also an opportunity to review the articulation of the candidates. As Fulbright scholars are cultural ambassadors and leaders in their fields, they must have strong communications skills.
