Each year, approximately five awards are offered to active UK police officers and staff from all ranks to conduct research, pursue professional development and/or assess best practice affiliated with any US institution. In exchange for serving as host, fellows can be a resource for US institutions by offering to speak to students and faculty about policing in the UK. The appointment will be for a period of 3-5 months beginning at any point between 1 August 2011 and 30 April 2012. Female and ethnic minority officers and staff are particularly encouraged to apply.
The award is for $3,000 per month (not to exceed a total of $15,000) paid in instalments directly to the grantee, the first of which is typically given just prior to departure from the UK. This funding is intended as a contribution towards any institutional fees, travel to/from the US, accommodation and general maintenance costs whilst in the US. Limited sickness and accident benefit coverage, visa sponsorship and processing and participation in a number of Fulbright Scholar events are also included. Applicants must have full or partial financial support from their home departments.
