Consider
how long your programme of study will take, the total
cost of the programme (tuition plus all living expenses
times the number of years in the programme), and whether
you will be allowed to use equipment or receive work
experience.
Visas
for Study
The main visas for study in the US are the F-1 student
visa and the J-1 exchange visitor visa. The type of
visa you will need to apply for will depend on the
form that is sent to you by the institution you plan
to attend. Do not expect to be able to work in the
US as a way to pay for your studies. You will need
to show proof that you have the money to cover your
first year of study in the US when you apply to the
US Embassy for your visa. Off-campus employment may
be permitted when it is a required part of a student's
practical training. You will also be asked when you
apply for a visa for proof of your intent to return
home. You will therefore need to ask prospective employers
if the credentials you will receive in the US will
be valid for employment in your home country.
