The Center offers Postdoctoral Residential Fellowships in the behavioural sciences and biological sciences. The award is equivalent to up to half of a nine-month university salary plus travel allowance to and from the Center for recipients and their families. The fellowship lasts from 9-12 months. Candidates should be nominated by academic officers or distinguished scholars.

Research grants are awarded in many disciplines: adaptive technology, waste management, agriculture, aviation/aerospace, natural resource conservation and biomedical research and health and population sciences. Researchers in the fields of architecture, fine arts, business and economics and history may apply for several types of fellowships. Fellows will receive a stipend of $1,200 to $1,500 per month for a maximum of six months. Application deadlines will vary according to the type of fellowship. Recipients should be prepared to devote their full time to fellowship research for the duration of the appointment. Research must be relevant to Hagley's collections.

The Center conducts research in literature, arts and the humanities and awards approximately twenty-five fellowships annually. One-month fellowships are granted $2,200 per month on a variety of research topics. Two- to four-month fellowships are also awarded $2,200 per month. For projects requiring less than one month's research at the Center, a travel stipend of $750 may be given. Travel stipends, however, may not be used with other Ransom Center Fellowships. The deadline for applications is 1 February 2006.

Radcliffe Institute fellowships are designed to support scholars, scientists, artists and writers of exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishments who wish to pursue work in academic and professional fields and in the creative arts. October 3 is the deadline for applicants in the Creative Arts (including Writing), Humanities and Social Sciences. Applications from natural scientists and mathematicians must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2005.

The Metropolitan Museum of Arts offers annual resident fellowships in conservation to qualified graduate students at the pre-doctoral level as well as to postdoctoral researchers. Fellowship applications for short-term research for senior Museum conservators are also considered. Projects should relate to the Museum's collections. The fields of research for conservation candidates include paintaints; paper; photographs; objects (including sculpture, metalwork, glass, ceramics, furniture and archaeological objects); textiles; musical instruments; costumes; and scientific research. It is desirable that applicants for the conservation fellowship program should have reached an advanced level of experience or training. All fellowships must take place between September 1, 2006 and August 31, 2007. Fellowships generally begin September 2006. Application, along with the required letters of recommendation, must be made by letter and must be received by the deadline date of January 6, 2006. Electronically submitted applications and letters of recommendation will not be accepted. The following fellowships are offered:

Annual resident fellowships in Art History are also offered to qualified graduate students at the predoctoral level as well as postdoctoral researchers. Projects should relate to the Museum's collections. The fields of research for Art History candidates include Asian art; arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas; antiquities; arms and armor, costumes; drawings, illuminated manuscripts; paintings, photographs, prints, sculpture, textiles and Western art. Some Art History fellowships for travel abroad are also available for students whose projects involve firsthand examination of paintings in major European collections. Michigan Society of Fellows awards grants in order to promote academic and creative excellence in the arts and social sciences. Research is to be conducted for three years at the University of Michigan. Candidates for the award should have received their doctorate degrees within the past two years. The annual stipend awarded is $47,271. The application deadline is 30 September 2005.

The National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowships are designed to promote scholarship in the US and abroad on matters relevant to the improvement of education in all its forms. Fellows will receive $55,000 for one academic year of research or $27,000 for each of two contiguous years, working half-time. Fellows will be included in professional development retreats with other fellows and Academy members. The application deadline is 10 November 2005.

The Center is a residential institute for advanced study in history, languages and literature, philosophy and other fields of the humanities. Approximately forty fellowships are awarded annually. Recipients are expected to work at the Center. Most fellowships are from September to May. Travel expenses for fellows and their dependants to and from North Carolina will be covered. Fellowships ranging from $30,000 to $50,000 are individually determined, depending on the needs of the Fellow and the Center's ability to meet them. Applications must be postmarked by 15 October 2005.

Jansky Postdoctoral Appointments provide opportunities for research in radio astronomy. Appointments are for two years and renewable for a third. Starting salaries will be approximately $49,000 and will include a travel budget and scientific page charge support, as well as other benefits. The Fellowship Programme provides fellowships of varying length to qualified investigators, clinicians, and nurses. Fellowships include, but are not limited to, the NOVARTIS Translational Cancer Research Fellowship (twelve months), the American Cancer Society International Fellowships for Beginning Investigators (twelve months), and the International Cancer Technology Transfer (1-3 months). Whitehall Foundation, Inc. is interested in investigators doing basic research in neurobiology. They prefer recent doctoral graduates. The award can be granted for up to three years and the researcher must work at a US institution. Applications are reviewed for an award of $30,000 to $75,000 three times a year.

The Center awards approximately 20-25 residential fellowships to individuals with outstanding project proposals in a broad range of the social sciences and humanities related to national or international issues.
