and Global Governance. Design and prosecution of short

Affiliation: Queen's
University of Belfast. The Institute is newly
founded and serves two main functions:
• As an identifiable forum, hitherto absent
in Northern Ireland, for practitioners and researchers
from Queen's University and Universities world-wide
and from the wider policy community.
• As a provider of strategic intellectual leadership
through which fundamental research questions are identified
and pursued to the highest international standard.
Drawing upon four parts of the Faculty of Legal, Social
and Educational Sciences, the Institute aims to address
problems arising in societies faced with the challenge
of adapting national political and legal infrastructures
to an increasingly interdependent and globalised world
order.
The research agenda of the Institute (and the research
infrastructure of Northern Ireland) is being advanced
through a program of external Senior Fellowships,
of Junior Fellowships and of postgraduate studentships.
The Institute also works in partnership with the respected
local 'think tank', Democratic
Dialogue. The presence of a social survey service
within the Institute affords additional empirical
research expertise. The Institute's role also involves
uniting and coordinating the existing research capacity
of some forty academic staff in different Schools
of the University and ensuring the development of
research synergies, through the organisation of a
scheme of internal secondments. Further information
on the Institute may be found at www.governance.qub.ac.uk.

have their own office space, access to a PC and the

Ireland, the Linen Hall Library, and the Assembly).
Starting Date: Between 1st September
2008 and 30th April 2009
