Cardiff University Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Grant Activity: Two awards are offered
to candidates wishing to develop their international
reputation in any field relevant to Cardiff University.
Fellows will be expected to develop a long-term link
between their home institution and Cardiff University.
It is expected that Fellows will undertake a small
amount of teaching although these are predominantly
research fellowships. Applicants should identify with
whom they wish to work and outline the research project
they wish to pursue in their applications. Preference
will be given to applications which contain an element
of outreach or involvement in the local community.
Applications are invited from scholars
whose research interests are complimentary to those
of researchers working in any of (or a combination
of) Cardiff’s research-active departments:
Architecture; Biosciences; Business (includes Economics);
Chemistry; City and Regional Planning; Computer Sciences;
Earth Sciences; Engineering; English; Communication
and Philosophy; European Studies (includes Politics);
History and Archaeology; Journalism, Media and Cultural
Studies; Law School; Mathematics; Music; Optometry
and Vision Sciences; Pharmacy; Physics and Astronomy;
Psychology, Religious and Theological Studies; Social
Sciences (includes Education), and Welsh.
Stipend:
£15,000 for 12 months, prorated for shorter
periods, with a minimum grant for four months. This
money is for travel and general expenses incurred
during the recipient's time in the UK, including any
required work permit fees. Candidates usually arrange
to receive sabbatical pay while away to meet any additional
expenses.
Restrictions: Those who hold dual
US/UK citizenship are ineligible. Once the award period
is confirmed, no extensions or alterations to it may
be made. Those who have recently spent a considerable
time in the UK will take lower priority.
Dependants:
The Commission cannot offer maintenance for dependants.
Candidates must ensure they have sufficient funds
to support accompanying family members during their
stay.
Accommodation: The Commission is unable to provide
accommodation. Candidates should contact Cardiff University
for local housing assistance once they have been accepted.
General information and guidelines will be offered
to all chosen grantees.
Length of Grant: 4 to 12 months.
Start Date:
Between 1st September 2007 and 30th April 2008.
