The work of the Fulbright Commission is governed by a Board of Commissioners, 7 appointed by the UK government and 7 by the US government. The Commissioners appoint an Executive Director who manages the work of the Commission.
Penny Egan took up the post of Executive Director of the Commission in February 2007. She was previously the first woman to run the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (RSA) in its 250-year history. Penny’s main objective is to increase the number of Fulbright awards the US-UK Commission makes each year and to take the advantage of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the treaty between the two governments to raise the profile of the Fulbright programme in the UK. Penny is a member of the Design Council and Warwick University Council as well as a Trustee of the Geffrye Museum and an Hon FRCA.
Beverley Brown has a degree in Medieval and Modern History but has worked as an accountant for over 20 years. She joined the Fulbright Commission in 1996 and is responsible for all the Commission's financial functions.
Michael holds a BSc in Media Management from Ithaca College and an MA in Transnational Communications from Goldsmiths, University of London. He joined Fulbright in spring 2006 and now oversees all US-UK exchange programmes facilitated by the Commission. Michael is working to make strategic partnerships, increase the number and value of Fulbright Awards and infuse the Programme with additional cultural events and benefits for the scholars' Fulbright Year.
A specialist teacher by profession Annette studied at CTTC and the University of Cape Town and taught in South Africa, Namibia, France and Israel. More recently she was involved in fundraising for children’s projects in Chile. She has worked as a PA in areas as diverse as Education, the Pharmaceutical industry, Sport at National level, and Mining.
US Programme Coordinator
Elizabeth joined the Commission in autumn 2008. She holds a BA in Scriptwriting from Webster University and a MA in Feature Film Screenwriting from Royal Holloway, University of London. Elizabeth oversees the US scholar programmes, organising cultural events and activities during their Fulbright year in the UK. She is also responsible for the coordination of the Commission’s Special Programmes including the Summer Institutes.
UK Programme Coordinator
Monique joined the Commission in August 2009. She studied at Royal Holloway, University of London and holds a BA in Psychology from University of California Santa Cruz. Before coming to Fulbright she participated in and later facilitated exchanges through the University of California Education Abroad Program and has worked with a variety of international education organisations. Monique is responsible for all elements of the UK Fulbright programmes including promotion, applications, advising, orientations and development.
Special Programmes Coordinator
Laura holds a BA in European Studies and French from the University of Leeds and an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of York. She joined the Commission in December 2009 and is involved in the administration of the Fulbright Awards. She is also responsible for the coordination of the Commission's Special Programmes, including the US and UK Summer Institutes.
Lauren joined the UK Commission in 2007. She holds a Master's in Higher Education Administration from North Carolina State University and is an alumna of a cultural exchange programme offered by the Austrian Fulbright Commission. Before coming to the UK Commission, Lauren held various positions at NCSU, including Programme Assistant for a merit scholarship and leaadership development programme and later coodinator for its alumni relations project. As Director of Advising, Lauren currently oversees the Commission's advising centre, which is part of the EducationUSA network, and efforts to promote US-UK exchange through the advising team's work.
Jamie holds a Master's in Political Communication from the University of Glasgow, where she attended on a Scotland-USA Graduate Scholarship. Prior to joining the Commission, Jamie worked in communications roles at the British and American Red Cross and as a Student Assistant in the Training and Development Office at James Madison University. In her current position, Jamie advises UK students interested in study in the US and implements aspects of the Commission's communications work.
Advising and Events Coordinator
Danielle holds a Master's in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Politics. Previously, she attended Coastal Carolina University on an athletic scholarship and worked closely with prospective student athletes considering Coastal. As Advising and Events Coordinator, she coordinates the Commission's USA College Day, USA Grad School Day and seminars, as well as advises UK students interested in US study.
