Robert Paton
AstraZeneca Research Scholarship, 2009-10

Fulbright Project: Distinguished Scholar, UCLA

Robert Paton studied Natural Sciences at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, graduating top of his year in Chemistry and went on to complete a PhD in computational chemistry. At Cambridge he received the Rafael prize in Organic Chemistry, and has obtained awards at conferences in London and San Francisco. In 2007 he was elected to a Junior Research Fellowship at St Catharine’s College. Rob serves on the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Olympiad Committee, which runs an annual competition in UK schools, and he acts as the UK’s Head Mentor at the International Chemistry Olympiad. Rob enjoys spending time on the football field and in the DJ booth and also enjoys learning Spanish, having conducted research at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia. At UCLA Rob joins the research group of Prof. Kendall Houk where he will investigate chemical catalysis and enzyme design.
