
Jeremy Day-O’Connell teaches music theory at Knox College. He was educated at Swarthmore College (B.A. in Music and Mathematics) and Cornell University (Ph. D. in Musicology), where he received the Donald J. Grout Memorial Prize and the Guildford Dissertation Prize. Also at Cornell, he directed the Cornell University Chorale and cofounded the Cornell Steel Band. His publications include a 2007 book, Pentatonicism from the Eighteenth Century to Debussy. Jeremy has recently become interested in empirical musicology, biomusicology, and interdisciplinary approaches to music theory. As a Fulbright Scholar, he will conduct research at the Phonology Laboratory of the University of Edinburgh concerning the musical aspects of speech. Other interests include soccer and cycling. He will be accompanied during his Fulbright year by his wife and two sons.
