Born and raised in London, Hilary Oppong obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and Phonetics from the University of Leeds. She graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 2005 and received the departmental prize of ‘Best Undergraduate Student’. Prior to embarking on her Master’s degree in the United States, Hilary worked for the Ministry of Justice and spent time gaining teaching experience in Japan and Ghana.
Hilary received a Fulbright Postgraduate Award in 2007 and spent her Fulbright year studying for a Master’s in Education degree at Harvard Graduate School of Education, graduating in June 2008. Whilst at Harvard, Hilary read Human Development and Psychology – a multi-disciplinary degree that explores the interrelationship between child, adolescent and adult development and education. Outside of her studies, Hilary enjoyed participating in student life at Harvard and was one of three student ambassadors for her program at the Ed School. She was also selected to act as a student reader on the Applications Committee and was responsible for helping to recruit the 2008-09 cohort of her program. Hilary also had the opportunity to travel extensively across the US and visited 11 states during her Fulbright year.
Hilary’s hobbies include dance, travel, running and socialising with family and friends. Since returning from the States last summer, Hilary has been training to be a teacher and has recently embarked on a career as a primary school teacher.
