Beenish Ahmed

Fulbright Project: Indian colonial-era policy and pedagogy, University of Oxford

Beenish Ahmed graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan with BA degrees in Creative Writing and Literature as well as Political Science. During her time there, she facilitated creative writing workshops in low-income schools, community centers, and prisons. Beenish has earned numerous recognitions for her writing, including four Hopwood Awards. She also served as Editor-in-Chief of Xylem, the University’s premier literary review for three years. In 2007, Beenish interned at One Economy Corporation and the Vera Institute of Justice in Washington, DC and New York City, respectively. In 2008, she taught English at a charity-run school in Peshawar, Pakistan. This summer, Beenish will pursue an intensive study of Urdu through a Critical Language Scholarship in Lucknow, India. This experience will help equip her to study Indian colonial-era policy and pedagogy as a Fulbright Scholar.
