The US-UK Fulbright Commission is pleased to announce six summer study opportunities for 2010.
1. Study of the United States Institute for Secondary School Educators
Study of the of the US Institutes for Secondary School Educators will provide educators with a deeper understanding of US society, education, and culture. The ultimate goal is to strengthen curriculum and to improve the quality of teaching about the United States in secondary schools and other academic institutions outside of the US. The Institutes will take place over the course of six weeks beginning in mid June 2010.

2. Study of the United States Institute for University Faculty and Scholars
Six postgraduate-level academic programmes will provide UK university faculty and scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of US society, culture and institutions through a 4-week summer course and a 2-week study tour. The ultimate goal is to strengthen curriculum and to improve the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions outside of the US. This year’s Institutes will begin in June 2010.

3. Summer Institute for Outstanding European Students
A five-week programme for UK undergraduate students held in the United States that focuses on study of the US, concepts of leadership from American perspectives, and civic engagement through academic coursework and participatory activities. This year's institutes will take place from 11 July – 14 August 2010.

4. Summer Institute for Outstanding European Students in Education
This summer institute is a five-week programme that offers UK undergraduate education students the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the United States through academic coursework and visits to historical and cultural sites. Participants will also explore the concept of civic engagement in the US by participating in community service activities. This year's institute will take place from 24 July - 28 August 2010.

5. Summer Institute on Climate Change and Sustainability
This Summer Institute a five-week cultural and academic programme for undergraduate students held at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. The ideal candidate would be an undergraduate student from one of the following academic fields; biology, environmental science, physics, chemistry, politics and policy studies, engineering and urban planning. UK participants will be joined by participants from France, Norway, Denmark and Portugal. This year’s Institutes will be 26 June - 31 July. The application deadline is 31 March 2010.
6. American Studies Summer Institute
This institute is a unique four-week programme, which has been devised by the U.S. Embassy in London in collaboration with New York University. Its aim is to enrich knowledge of the United States among the next generation of American Studies professionals in the UK, in particular those who do not have extensive experience of the United States at first-hand. This year’s Institutes will begin in late-June 2010.
